Donna Barton Brothers, a former jockey and now a television analyst, has been named chief operating officer for Starlight Racing.
Barton Brothers, who is married to Starlight’s bloodstock agent, Frank Brothers, will work with managing partners Jack Wolf and Donnie Lucarelli, the existing partners, and the newly-formed partnership of 2012 in racing operations, marketing, and business development, according to the announcement.
“We are thrilled to have Donna join our team,” said Wolf. “I’ve known Donna for years and respect her immense knowledge in all aspects of the racing industry. Donna’s husband, Frank, has been our bloodstock agent for years and is a big part of our success. I feel fortunate to have one of the best teams in racing.”
Barton Brothers will continue to work with NBC Sports and TVG while working with Starlight Racing.
“I am so excited to be working with one of the most successful racing partnerships in the industry,” said Barton Brothers. “Starlight’s tremendous success and track record speaks for itself on what a great operation they’ve established. Jack and Laurie (Wolf) and Donnie and Barb (Lucarelli) are wonderful people who have created a remarkably successful business model. I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve spent with all of them and look forward to working more closely with them and all of the Starlight Racing partners.”
Starlight Racing’s Algorithms was one of the early favorites for this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) after winning the $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III). The undefeated colt was sidelined due to injury and is expected to return to the track later this year.
Among the additional stakes winners campaigned by Starlight have been two-time Eclipse champion Ashado, who sold for a then-record $9 million. One of their top earners of 2011 was Hilda's Passion, whose four graded stakes wins included the Ballerina (gr. I). She was sold at the Keeneland November sale for $1,225,000
According to Starlight, over the last 12 years the operation has won 50 stakes races, including 17 grade I’s, 13 grade II’s, and eight grade III’s. Starlight’s runners have finished in the money.
